Anyway, never mind the political calculations. Confronting Mr. Bush on Iraq has become a patriotic duty.

This is indeed frustrating. And it would be nice if we had a strong enough anti-war majority to call Bush on his bluff. But, of course, if we had that, we'd probably be using legislative means like the Feingold bill to end the war and not letting the issue get mixed up with the war supplementals.
