Someone I know once said "coal is the enemy of the human race." I think he was right. His article explaining just one of the reasons why is here. There's very little to add to this--because it's both so condemnatory and so dead-on--but as I learned back in my halcyon days reporting on Congressional leadership, both Pelosi and Reid know how noxious CTL (and perhaps King Coal in general) are. That's probably why it got voted out of the Senate energy bill, and why I doubt it will end up in the House version. This is all the more reason, though, why no American should even consider letting what passes as Republicans these days retake control of the Congress until (at the very least) we get a good climate change bill signed into law.

Yeah, Pelosi and Reid know, along with Waxman, Kerry, Inslee, and lots of others. But there are tons of Republicans on board with this, and a big chunk of Democrats. If you've watched closely all the energy-bill deliberations these past few weeks, some legislator or other has tried to attach a CTL subsidy amendment at literally every single stage, to every proposal, in the Energy committee, the Science committee, everywhere. It's relentless.
Yeah... they pop up all over the place. And they need to be smacked down like that mole-smashing game at old-school video arcades. Remember?
