In the back room

I had a meeting today with my shadowy tech consultants. We now have the germ of an idea--a plan for a plan if you will--for the site redesign and relaunch. ETA, I'm told, is about one-month. Stay tuned.

I was surprised (dismayed?) by your earlier announcement to create the site without a content-management tool designed for blogging (WordPress, Moveable Type, etc.) - that is, creating your own ground-up html/css site.

My bet ($50.00) is that you will give this up when you find how many features of blog software are hard to create from scratch, and how many glitches will appear when you test the home-grown software. In particular, the user comment creation and editing features will be devilishly hard to create and debug. Similarly, RSS/Atom feeds, trackback, etc.

Not that I'm a cynic, understand, but I can't think of anybody recently (2-3 years) that has taken this route.

If your objectives are both a nice design and you not having to be a geek, the second goal will be very hard.

Best wishes, however!

Oh, I'll be on a moveable type platform... i'm not THAT ambitious...or foolish

Good man, Brian. That looks like a sane choice to me.

I look forward to being able to provide my 'positive critiques' when the time arrives. [I have a checklist already in hand....]
