Ousting Cheney

Sally Quinn alerts me to some huge news. "The big question right now among Republicans is how to remove Vice President Cheney from office."

That's funny. Because for the last several weeks there's been this effort by Congressional progressives--spearheaded by Dennis Kucinich--to introduce articles of impeachment against vice president. They're all written up and everything. If Republicans wanted to remove him from office, they'd just sign on, or offer up something similar and invite the Kucinich caucus to join them. If a significant number of Republicans agreed to an impeachment bid, it would become a hard movement to stop. So the question is, am I smarter than the Republican party, and they've just yet to figure this out? Or is this actually not the big question facing the GOP right now?

The answer is yes. And yes.

yes and yes, AND this is now-standard GOP media manipulation. Leak stories (for instance) on closing Gitmo, leading people to think you are potentially rational, and then deny later that the stories are true, or they got the truth somewhat bent.

There is ZERO chance that Cheney will be thrown overboard (even cabinet officers are afraid to go direct to Bush when they disagree with Cheney).

Even if it were possible, the White House would cause great distress in the base by ditching Cheney, and the candidates would be rabid if one of them (F. Thompson) were hand-picked to replace Cheney.

Some Cheney enemies in the GOP are trying to cause speculation in the media because they don't have the balls to tell Bush directly of their concerns. It means nothing, except it might even harden GW's male member to defy more of his party's petty concerns with the minor issue of an election when what is at stake is GW's footprint in a future fossilized beach.

Jim's right. And If Bush won't get rid of "Fredo", there's no way he'll let Cheney go.
