I'm sure you all read E.J. Dionne anyhow. If you don'tt, do. Let me just point out that, though what he lays out here is mostly indisputable, I'm still in a (hopefully temporary) post-SiCKO funk, and need to vent some worries. As you'll see in the movie, Moore documents, in his inimitable way, just how the forces of anti-socialist fearmongering--that is, the most despicable peddlers of right-wing propaganda--aligned to destroy Hillarycare to serve completely selfish ends. More than a decade later, you can still read Larry Kudlow once or twice a week at The Corner pushing the same nonsense vis-a-vis Clinton's plan to reverse Bush's tax cuts on the wealthy. It's a specific example of the sort of artillery I imagine the entire right-wing infrastructure will deploy after the conventions and that's just for Hillary Clinton.
Over the past several months I've convinced myself that now's a ripe time to get a progressive candidate into the White House, and I think I still believe it is. I've come to believe that the religious base of the GOP has been largely de-energized and won't be terribly riled by this kind of economic hysteria. But, in my newfound malaise, I want some insightful op-ed writer to assure me that my instincts weren't misguided. E.J.?

Be very grateful if we get someone only as centrist as Clinton (or possibly Obama).
