Personally, if I were Patrick Fitzgerald, I'd only accept an Attorney General post if I could use it as a springboard for an Ahab like quest to find out what really went on in the Plame outing. I'd also challenge both Bush and Cheney to steel cage matches. But that's just me.

Given memories of The Saturday Night Massacre (Nixon's DoJ purge), even the AG position isn't safe.

I seriously think the Congress should consider making the Dept of Justice an independent agency that doesn't report to the President (like the Federal Reserve). We've had to many Ed Meese and Alberto Gonzales types as AG.
