Almost daily Corner bashing

Victor Davis Hanson again:

Edwards apparently wants everyone to give [up SUVs]. There's an argument to be made that they guzzle too much fuel and should, and must, be made more efficient—the market is already doing that—but the logical question then follows:

Can't Americans give up their 30,000 sq.ft homes, or private jet rides, as some small token of their commitment to energy efficiency?

There's, not surprisingly, no link to anything Edwards said on this score, so I don't know what his actual statement was. It's, of course, possible to have a large house that's energy efficient. Edwards claims his is. Al Gore is making his own house carbon neutral. The only way to have a green SUV is to never drive it.

It's also, as VDH knows, perfectly non-hypocritical to demand and work for government or industry action on climate change while also living a life in the real world commensurate to income. If Edwards starts telling people of all stripes to move to big cities and live in apartments then he'll be a big hypocrite. What he's doing now, though, is bearing the brunt of disingenuous attempts by conservatives to move the conversation away from the climate-destroying policies they're responsible for.
