Clearly aware that writing a response to the seven enlisted men from the 82nd Airborne would look really really bad, The Weekly Standard instead dispatched the task to... seven other enlisted men (an organic effort no doubt from seven men are members of Vets for Freedom).
Clever. But important:
It's true that political reconciliation has not suited so-called "benchmarks," but political progress will only happen when the battlefield and political realities are congruent. We know that street level security is a necessary precondition for real political progress.
Yes! What common sense! Of course, that's followed with: "...[A]nd as such, the preconditions are finally being fulfilled." Except that this is emphatically not true, and is the sort of easy-to-swallow rhetoric that should not be allowed through laziness to make its way into the mainstream.
