Paul Krugman comments on the major conundrum that faces the Republican party: The base they spent decades cultivating and wooing with race-bating pander is now the major force preventing them from attracting (and causing them to further repel) the minority voters they'll need to lure if they want to be a majority party in years to come. What they thought was fertile soil turns out to have been laced with poison. What a shame.

Yeah, my heart bleeds for the GOP. The only thing I can think of that would be better than the GOP as the minority party would be the GOP just gone. Like the Whigs.
A real conservative (Tory) party might be the way out.
Even better, the Dems positioned as the Social Democrats and the GOP positioned as Christian Democrats (minus the current wingnut evangelicals).
But I like 'gone' the best.
