Be prepared for the most tortured legal arguments you've heard yet from the administration when Congress holds hearings about this. By all accounts, a huge number of the missing emails were outgoing from White House staffers using RNC accounts and that is outrightly illegal. The metadata on this is astounding--over 140,000 RNC emails from Karl Rove alone. There's not a justification in the world for the White House to ignore subpoenas of at least the RNC emails, or, for that matter, of the officials in the Office of Administration who were ostensibly the ones ordered to set up the accounts in the first place.
