People really like Jon Chait's "The Case Against New Ideas" and it's a fine piece of work, but it's incomplete. It needs a companion piece called "The Case Against "Big" Ideas". Not that there's anything wrong with "Big Ideas" per se, but all too frequenly some very, very banal ideas are characterized as "Big Ideas" by unthinking members of the press. Jon needs to write a case against those ideas. Because haven't you heard? Newt Gingrich has them. Big ideas and vision. If only he'd run for president.
