Kerry's clarity

Marty Peretz can't read English:

We know what Senator Kerry means but it's not because of what he said. Speaking apropos General Petraeus's report to Congress, John Kerry said the his "strategy does not represent the kind of leveraged transition that is necessary to change the behavior of the Iraqi government...You have to change the mission. I think they are planning on the same type of mission, the same process, which in my judgment delays the process of reconciliation and delays the assumption of responsibility."

So lucid. I wonder why he wasn't elected president.

Meanwhile, this is all perfectly clear, and John Kerry lost the election to a man named George W. Bush, who's not exactly known for his silver tongue. Also this is the same Marty Peretz who just one day earlier wrote this poetic gem: "I don't know what will happen in Iraq. But, as my readers know, I tend to the gloomy in Middle Eastern matters. Still, even a gloomy outlook allows for surprises that are not as terrible as it imagines."

Marty's astounding ability to retain his job at this magazine makes me wonder just how many incriminating naked photos of the new owners he has in his possession. Can someone please explain to me his continued existence?

A. Marty chose the new owners (a Canadian media firm with pronounced rightist lean) because they agreed with his 'philosophy', and he agreed to stay on as the mole in charge.

B. The new owners made Marty Editor in Chief. He even has a Jamie Kircheck fresh from whatever neo-con factory made him as his Assistant to the Editor in Chief - to make sure Marty is protected from contamination from staff.

C. Franklin Foer is just the Editor and doesn't control Marty or the editorial focus of the 'magazine', which pretends to 'unconventional wisdom'.

D. TNR went over to the Dark Side some substantial time ago. They employe some progressive voices as cover. The function of the magazine is to undercut the left from what appears to be within. They are Joe Lieberman writ large.
