No supply-side nonsense here

The op-ed I linked to yesterday reveals (rereveals?) that Dick Cheney, the non-influential vice president of the United States, is either a liar, imbecile, or both, but either way he touts Bush's tax cuts as the source of increased Federal revenue.

The economic growth encouraged by the president's tax cuts is now producing sharply increased federal tax receipts -- up by nearly 15% in fiscal year 2005 alone, nearly 12% in fiscal year 2006, and projected to rise nearly 7% in the fiscal year that will end this month.

I suppose it's possible that every last reader of the Wall Street Journal knows this is all political window dressing and that Cheney's real reason for supporting the president's tax cuts is rooted in sophisticated libertarian economic thinking. But that just makes one wonder: If nobody actually believes this crap, and no agnostics are convinced by it either, why would Cheney feel compelled to write this in the Journal in the first place?
