Warner's double cross

John Warner, aggressively attempting to ruin his reputation as a classy statesman in the waning months of his Senate career, voiced support for Jim Webb's proposal to allow troops to rotate out of combat and then--BAM!--totally changed his mind about it at the last minute. Here's his logic as stated on CNN via a Kos diarist:

I agree with the principles [in the amendment], but I regret to say I've been convinced by those in the professional uniform that they cannot do it and do it in a way that wouldn't invoke further unfairness to other soldiers now serving in Iraq.

Breakdown: It will be really unfair if some troops are able to split time between home and combat for while others aren't. That would really suck. So the troops will stay in Iraq. And thus, everybody's happy!

Bravo, senator. Bravo.
