Condi whopper part II

Last week I wrote a post about Condoleezza Rice's testimony that was meant to include these words of hers in a block quote:

Rice: I wouldn't want to make public allegations about corruptions for anybody, unless i could be certain that they were substantiated, corroborated and i would hope that it would be understood that the last thing that we want to do is to talk about allegations rather than fully investigating them, rather than taking the time to see if they can be corroborated. And that would be the way follow whether it was an ally or an adversary.

Anyhow, long story short, I realized today that the actual quote didn't show up because I hadn't closed the blockquote HTML tag, rendering the post mostly useless. Here was my point:

The way this actually works in the Bush administration is people like Condoleezza Rice say nothing about the extreme levels of corruption--alleged or substantiated--in any number of convenient countries, and cast about all sorts of aspersions, even lies, about less reliable governments.

Well just now the world of web news provided me a perfect case in point:

The United States on Monday brushed aside the UN nuclear watchdog agency chief's warning that there was no proof Iran seeks atomic weapons, and invited him to stay out of diplomacy with Tehran.

Mohamed ElBaradei, head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), told CNN Sunday that he had no evidence Iran was building nuclear weapons and accused US leaders of adding "fuel to the fire" with their warlike rhetoric....

At the White House, spokeswoman Dana Perino said there was no doubt about Iran's plans because "this is a country that is enriching and reprocessing uranium and the reason that one does that is to lead towards a nuclear weapon."

Nope. No unsubstantiated allegations there. None at all. Glad to see we're not falling into some war-inducing trap whereby we "talk about allegations rather than fully investigating them, rather than taking the time to see if they can be corroborated." Good work, team!
