Coulter's kampf

Might as well pile on too. Here's the already infamous quote:

If we took away women’s right to vote, we’d never have to worry about another Democrat president. It’s kind of a pipe dream, it’s a personal fantasy of mine, but I don’t think it’s going to happen. And it is a good way of making the point that women are voting so stupidly, at least single women.

It also makes the point, it is kind of embarrassing, the Democratic Party ought to be hanging its head in shame, that it has so much difficulty getting men to vote for it. I mean, you do see it’s the party of women and "We’ll pay for health care and tuition and day care — and here, what else can we give you, soccer moms?’'

It probably won't make me a hero to feminists if I point out what a despicable gorgon Ann Coulter is, but here goes: Ann Coulter is a despicable gorgon! A hideous she-Grendel!

There's an added layer of filth here, just under the obvious layer of filth on the surface. And here it is: Give or take some negligible number, there are just as many women in this country as there are men. Likewise the past two elections--the ones that have made Coulter's career what it is--were decided by an also fairly tiny margin; for all intents and purposes, an equal number of Democrats and Republicans showed up to vote in 2000 and 2004. Which means that--basically--for every woman out there voting for Al Gore and John Kerry ithere has been a man voting for George W. Bush and George W. Bush. And it's his politics that she believes should continue to dominate the country.

That's the goal; calling women's voting rights into question here is just a non-sequitur. She's a woman, so she'll take less flak yearning wistfully for the halcyon days of pre-suffrage America than she would for, say, advocating for the rejection of black enfranchisement. It's the 19th amendment she decries--and not the 15th--because she's got some small amount of immunity there, even though her ideas are as racist as they are sexist. The point is to rig elections through disenfranchisement of some kind so that a deeply conservative minority--Republican males--can hijack the presidency forever.

And this sort of thinking is perfectly standard on the right.
