"The key is going to be getting the concerned local citizens — and all the citizens — feeling that this government is reconnected with them," says General David Petraeus to McClatchy. Chalabi "agrees with that."
Right. Chalabi. A finer steward of American and Iraqi interests has never walked the earth. A lot has been made of the foolishness of turning to Chalabi again and again, but given that the plan at this point is to stay in Iraq come hell or high water, we're going to be stuck with an ever-shrinking supply of opportunistic dunderheads willing to do the crucial work there in the first place. That one of these dunderheads is Ahmad Chalabi doesn't surprise me at all.

It seems clear that the world and the Iraqis should have realized from day one of the US preemptive invasion that the designated hitter after the rubout of Saddam was Chalibi as the new dictator - extended family and all. He won the US neo-con 'upcoming totalitarian of the year' prize before we invaded. All the intervening inconvenience was due to faulty stage-managing and failure to do dress rehearsals.
Truly, he's the energizer bunny of Iraq's transition: he just keeps scheming and scheming and scheming. He will prevail.
Hang on, I thought Chalabi worked for Iran and that they were they current target of the two minute hate.
