High fives to everybody excoriating Republicans, who always seem to have "scheduling problems" when it comes time to talk about non-white people. But it's also important to remember that as the GOP continues its policy of abandoning the fastest growing segments of the U.S. voting population, and in so doing becomes more and more irrelevant, many Democrats will no doubt be tempted into complacency on issues of structural inequality. I'm happy to see the Democrats prosper when powerful conservatives pander to racists, and think it will be a good thing for the country if the GOP, in its current form, becomes basically irrelevant. But it would be a profound tragedy if that portended a race to second-to-last place on minority and immigration issues, and I fear it will.
