A tale of two detainees

Via Andrew Sullivan, we learn that an intelligent, humane approach to interrogation helped an FBI Agent extract useful information out of Saddam Hussein*.

Conversely, in an effort to learn more about the murder of Daniel Pearl, the CIA handed a detainee over to the Pakistanis who tortured him to death, at which point further details weren't exactly forthcoming.

*=I realize that Saddam's questioning was part of an effort to get him tried, convicted, and then ceremoniously hanged by angry Iraqis, but that's a separate issue.
