Never mind the bollocks

Military veteran Coddled, nepotized, pundit Jamie Kirchick lashes out at "chicken little" Chris Hedges for daring to suggest that Americans oppose a war against Iran (should one occur) with pro-active, time-tested tactics.

Such hysterical, bag-lady type ranting should not come as a surprise when it's from the mouth of the man who infamously declared that Israeli soldiers "entice children like mice into a trap and murder them for sport." (That lurid sentence was published not in the Times, but Harper's, the go-to publication these days for respectable AIDS denialism).

I was tempted for a moment to point out that Jamie discredits himself by writing for a magazine that has, in recent years, been the go-to magazine for respectable racism (Bell Curve), high-minded mendaciousness (No Exit), and ruthlessly serious, though deeply misguided warmongering (ummm... TNR circa 2001-). But then I realized that many, many good articles also appear in The New Republic and that Jamie Kirchick does a fantastic job of discrediting himself. So maybe the bullshit one writes is mostly one's own business.

Meanwhile, if we attack Iran, and Chris Hedges' position on that war is vindicated, Jamie will no doubt deny having ever supported it in the first place--but he'll still hold Chris Hedges in contempt for... reasons that remain deeply unclear.
