I'm less optimistic than Steve Benen is that more op-eds like these will jar the media into calling Rudy Giuliani and Mitt Romney out on their lies about the Democrats' healthcare plans. I think Democrats could all but propose abolishing Medicare and Medicaid and the VA and they'd still be accused of being socialists.
But if I'm right, and they really are stuck with this sort of dishonesty no matter what they do, why not just propose a publicly funded universal health care system, to be implemented over 10 or 20 years?
As a point of agreement though, Steve's right here. Sean Hannity is an idiot, and it's pretty hilarious.

It's the "Drudge Trolling" problem again. There is no one on the left who can aggregate the hits for a story about this like Drudge can for the right. So there is no incentive for establishment journalists to push the story any further. Why bother if it won't get them the kind of hits that a "Edwards haircut" or "Hillary laughs" story will get?
Indeed.

Liberal, liberal, liberal!
Socialist, sooialist, socialist!
See, that doen't really hurt so much.
If it walks like a duck....
(But, note that I don't have to be elected to anything, although in Multnomah Country OR (Portland), I think the dog catcher could be elected as a socialist.)
