The Huckabee ad...

...is now getting a tremendous amount of attention, which, of course was the whole point of the spot in the first place. So score one for Huckabee.

Meanwhile, I don't necessarily think this represents an inflection point in American politics. We turned that corner years and years ago, such that most people didn't seem to care when George Bush announced during the 2000 campaign that his favorite philosopher is Jesus Christ.

On the plus side, it did provide an opening for Ron Paulto call Huckabee a fascist--but on the merits, Mussolini repealed Italy's luxury tax, while Huckabee plans to eliminate all other taxes and replace them with a national sales tax. (Neither plan makes for particularly good policy in my humble opinion).

Conversely, though, one of the defining features of the fascist economy was the individualization of profit and the collectivization of cost, and Huckabee's membership in the Republican party (to say nothing of the tendencies of many Democrats) sort of implies a willingness to subsidize all sorts of nefarious corporations when they screw things up, and to... subsidize those same corporations when their CEOs imply that their bonuses are inadequate. So I guess Paul's only half right.
