Sundry SOTU blogging
- Bush wears a bright blue tie. Vote Democrat!
- From the prepared remarks: "And so long as we continue to trust the people, our Nation will prosper, our liberty will be secure, and the State of our Union will remain strong." Was the State of the Union strong in the 1860s, too?
- George Bush sure is sucky, eh? Veto veto veto veto. The drinking game I've chosen requires me and all around me to take a sip every time the Republicans rise in applause while the Democrats sit glowering. I'll be three sheets to the wind by 9:30.
- Congress should promote the Health Savings Accounts that nobody wants and take actions against the "epidemic" of frivolous medical malpractice lawsuits that doesn't exist. What a fine idea. While they're at it Congress should also incentivize the sale of Laser Discs, and confront the epidemic of Small Pox that so desperately threatens the State of our Union.
- What's a "Hispanish"?
- Let's entrust our entrepreneurs to develop clean energy technology (but not incentivize it... HSAs and Laser Discs, remember?), and then let's hope that in the end those entrepreneurs come up with clean coal and "emissions free nuclear" technology.
- On a more serious note, this is--as I recall--the third SOTU in which Bush has mentioned the threat of GHGs while maintaining a strict program of not doing anything about them. I don't even know why he bothers.
- Not cloning humans has an unusual amount of bipartisan support.
- War: Teh awesome!
- Also, surge: Teh awesome! (new term: "Grassroots Surge")
- Live blogging pabulum is quite a bit like... live blogging pabulum.
- Well, so much for this post.
- So based upon my personal Republican applause-ometer, the GOP (and presumably its presidential candidates) stand firmly atop a deeply unpopular policy platform. It'd be great news if it wasn't such terrible news. And that, my friends, is the end of that. God bless America.
