California

Today's New York Times features a brilliant interactive map, which shows a county by county breakdown in every state that voted in yesterday's Stupendous Tuesday primaries. In a twist up of political perceptions, though, the 14 states Obama won are marked in red, with Hillary's eight in blue.

If we look at my home state of California as a microcosm of the greater United States, we see that Hillary picked up basically the entire heartland plus Los Angeles and conservative metro areas like Orange and San Diego counties. Meanwhile Obama won with highly educated coastal elites and hippies in Santa Cruz, the Bay Area, Humboldt County and the like.

The only county in NY won by Obama is Tompkins, the home of Cornell.

I can vouch for the above comment. My dad lives in Tompkins County and voted Obama. He was pretty excited about it, too. I, on the other hand, live in Berkeley, CA and voted Hillary. But then again, I'm very grouchy.
