David Shuster...

...has been suspended from MSNBC. I basically associate myself with Atrios' thoughts here. I think Shuster--a guy with no history of saying sexist things, but also someone who's perhaps too cynical of the Clintons--probably meant to suggest (incorrectly) that Bill and Hillary were "trotting" or "parading" their daughter opportunistically around the trail. The fact is that their daughter is an adult who naturally supports her mother in the primary and enjoys campaigning at her side.

That said, I think the suspension was a little bit over the top. I detect in it a sense of desperation--a fear that the Clintons might shun MSNBC if execs there didn't do something in response. But in the end Shuster said what he said and a suspension is by no means indefensible. What is indefensible is that Shuster's boss is allowed to analyze politics through a misogynistic lens for a living. When he was finally forced to address it, his responses had a distinctly "Why do all these bitches think I'm a sexist?" sort of dismissiveness to them. And yet he's still the host of Hardball.

Update: On the other hand, maybe Shuster does have a bit of a history.

Now is the time to smack media. They're not going to go easy on her unless she proves she can hurt them as much as they can hurt her. Clinton and Obama both need to kick the media in the nuts every single day until jan 20, 2017.
