Ayers the ghostwriter

This hilarious piece has been making the rounds:

Shy of a confession by those involved, I will not be able to prove conclusively that Obama did not write this book. As shall be seen, however, there are only two real possibilities: one is that Obama experienced a near miraculous turnaround in his literary abilities; the second is that he had major editorial help, up to and including a ghostwriter.

The weight of the evidence overwhelming favors the latter conclusion and strongly suggests who that ghostwriter is....

Obama's memoir was published in June 1995. Earlier that year, Ayers helped Obama, then a junior lawyer at a minor law firm, get appointed chairman of the multi-million dollar Chicago Annenberg Challenge grant. In the fall of that same year, 1995, Ayers and his wife, Weatherwoman Bernardine Dohrn, helped blaze Obama's path to political power with a fundraiser in their Chicago home.

In short, Ayers had the means, the motive, the time, the place and the literary ability to jumpstart Obama's career. And, as Ayers had to know, a lovely memoir under Obama's belt made for a much better resume than an unfulfilled contract over his head.

So the timeline goes something like this: As soon as Ayers and Obama met in 1995, they went straight to work on a book, hired an agent, who got them a contract, and just weeks later Dreams of My Fathers was on bookshelves.

Alternatively, Ayers could had been spying on Obama and ghostwriting his autobiography before they officially met. This may be the likelier possibility, as Ayers' history as a fugitive Weatherman must have taught him a lot about being shady and going undetected for months at a time.

The name of that blog should be "American Know-nothing." Man, Big O has really driven some people around the bend, huh?

I have a friend who maintains, (90% jokingly) that the last 3 Harry Potter books were actually ghost-written by Stephen King:

1. There was a fairly substantial gap between two of the books, suggesting that Rowling succumbed to the pressure of celebrity and experienced writer's block;

2. The books got longer and longer, much like King's have, and have gotten flabbier, also a King trait.

3. The tone got MUCH darker toward the end of the series, more in keeping with SK's twisted worldview.

So the publisher, not willing to let the golden goose sit frozen in front of her word processor, hired a black knight to come to the rescue.

Rather silly, but every bit as plausible as the bit of silliness and paranoia you linked to!!

Seems plausible to me ;)

Michelle Obama worked with Ayers wife 20 years ago. That is 7 years earlier than previously mentioned. I believe it
