Intrigued, like others, by the increase in the price of Campbell's Soup shares on a day the Dow plummeted 778 points amid panic about financial disaster, I poked around for data on companies that make non-soup, non-perishable foods items and other life saving materials and found... nothing interesting. Which leads me to the somewhat boring conclusion that Campbell's Soup is prospering these days not because people are hording it in preparation for end times, but because, as is common this time of year, the weather's starting to get colder.
