Sinking fast

Kevin Drum has a suggestion for residents of the Maldives--who will soon find themselves under water:

Instead of setting up a sovereign wealth fund to purchase the land, perhaps Nasheed should just buy a credit default swap that pays off if the Maldives are inundated. Since Republicans don't believe that global warming exists, they should be eager buyers for the other end of the swap.

Alternatively, they could just agree to buy homes in new, but abandoned, housing developments in Florida and inland Southern California. That'll boost home prices and might even rescue us from this little financial crisis we're in. Everybody wins! Isn't global warming great?
